Biden Announces New Russian Sanctions

Image
Biden has announced new sanctions that would target large financial institutions, 5 Russian elites, and Moscow's sovereign debt in an attempt to deter Putin from invading Ukraine as tensions continue to increase between Russia and Ukraine along with NATO allies. This has been an ongoing coverage by the media for some time now, but this most recent set of sanctions by Biden has created some differences in how the media responded.  CNN covered Biden's speech calling the language and the sanctions robust and Borger's translation of his showed no criticism commenting on how serious the president looked and that this was quintessential Biden language. While CNN showed little to no criticism of Biden's response to Russia, Fox was another story. Sean Hannity of Fox drills into Biden on his multiple failures one of which being how he has failed with the Russia Ukraine conflict. He brings up one of his tweets from February 2020 in which Biden said he was the only perso...

The 2022 Super Bowl Halftime Show

The 2022 Super Bowl Halftime Show made history with Hip Hop being included for the first time which was made possible with the NFL's recent partnership with Jay-Z. While a lot of goo came from this, there were also some controversies from these anti establishment icons which people see as them settling and there was Eminem taking the knee which the NFL allegedly told him not to do. She comments, "While the performance was terrific, it doesn't absolve the NFL of its many systemic failures or change the fact that its still a predominantly black league with a pretty bad track record of racial equality." While Jay-Z partnership was meant to call for real change, she called out the NFL for still not letting Kaepernick play. Fox news on the other hand did not comment on any o...

The Freedom Convoy

The freedom convoy, which began in late January, was a series of protests and blockades in Canada against COVID 19 vaccine mandates and restrictions. In an attempt to shut down these protests, the Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, enacted the Emergencies Act for the first time in Canada's history. This which was created in the 80's gives sweeping powers to the government which gives extraordinary temporary measures to respond to public welfare emergencies, public order emergencies, international emergencies and war emergencies.  The way that the media covered the protests and to the enactment of the Emergencies Act varied heavily in terms of their rhetoric. CNN took a softer approach, seemingly downplaying the situation and coming off as just another law passing. CNN's Brianna Keller sums it up as "pretty sweeping powers," but CNN's main criticism being that the trucks are still there and that the act might not change anything as children are particip...
