Media Discrepancy on Title 42 Rollback

Image
Title 42 was enacted during the Trump presidency which allowed for authorities to expel migrants at the US border in order to stop the spread of Covid. However, on April 1st, the Biden Administration announced that it planned to lift title 42 which is set to end on May 23rd. Though a federal judge has just issued a temporary block on the Biden administration to rollback title 42. Fox and MSNBC both acknowledged the lack of support that Biden has on his plan to rollback title 42, though the rhetoric used and how they broke this issue down varied. Fox news slammed Biden for being a lawless president which they say is what Trump was always attacked for being. Fox also attacked the White House for how they downplayed the death of Bishop Evans by not accept responsibility for his death due to the lack of support for border security. MSNBC went for a more neutral approach with the only criticism being that it's hard to justify rolling back title 42 when the Biden administration wants t...

Media Discrepancy on the elimination of Disney's special governing status in Flordia

Image
Florida lawmakers gave their final approval on a bill that will end the Walt Disney company's designation as a self governing entity which Florida Govender Ron DeSantis will sign into law. For over a decade, Disney's Orlando theme parks have been able to function with a high degree of autonomy with the freedom to control everything in their district from road construction to building projects. The special district for Disney also gave them the freedom to set up their own tax system and police force. The news broke down this story with CNN and Fox sharing different views on the bill. Fox calls this decision by the Florida legislature as an excellent move as its sending a signal to all the woke companies who are trying to influence politics. It's also a good decision according to Fox as it's keeping Disney from having too much power. CNN though views this situation differently as they state that this move by the Florida legislature is in retaliation to Disney's crit...

Media Discrepancy on the signing of Florida's "Parental Rights in Education" bill

Image
The Governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, signed the "Parental Rights in Education" bill into law which many have dubbed the "Don't Say Gay" bill as the bill prohibits classroom instruction by school personnel or 3rd parties on sexual orientation or gender identity from kindergarten through third grade. Supporters of the bill state that this bill is meant to allow for parents to determine when and how to introduce LGBTQ topics to their children. The media covered this bill with many different reactions with CNN against the bill and Fox news in favor of the bill. CNN discussed the fact that while it's true that schools should be focused on teaching kids how to read and write, there is a big problem in the country is people in the LGBTQ community being bullied at school. The fact that schools should not even talk about a group of people is seen as an issue by CNN. Fox news though sees the hysteria surrounding the bill as calculated and is demonizing concerned p...

Media Discrepancy on Elon Musk Buying Twitter

Image
A few days ago Elon Musk came to an agreement with twitter to buy the company in a $44 billion deal and will be taking the company private as he will be the sole owner of twitter stock. This has taken the world by storm as twitter is one of the most important platforms for communication which has led to the mainstream news covering this transaction in different ways. On the one hand there is Fox who has been covering this story as a win for free speech while CNN is hesitant on whether this will be good or bad for the future. Fox news has been very critical of the tech companies who they see as having too much control on what people can say on their platforms, so they are praising Elon for taking a stand against censorship. CNN though is worried that his campaign for free speech will lead to a surge of misinformation on the platform when he takes over and allowing for political figures such as Donald Trump to return to the platform. Media Discrepancy on the Voiding of the Transportation Mask Mandate

Image
On Monday, April 18th, a Federal Judge struck down the national mask mandate for mass transportation which led airlines and airports to quickly repeal their requirements for their passengers to wear masks, and the TSA stated that they would no longer enforce the mask requirement. The topic of masks has always been a political discussion, so naturally the media reacted to this news differently with Fox news celebrating this ruiling while MSNBC took this news with a more skeptical reaction. Fox played MSNBC's reaction and was critical on what the network said calling that many on the left have latched on to masks as an identity component, and that they can still wear masks if they want to so there is no reason to get upset about the mandate being lifted. MSNBC though stated that they wish the ruiling had came from the CDC and not from a Federal Judge. The network called out the fact that the mandate was lifted during the middle of many flights, and that some people with low immune ...

Media Discrepancy on the Supreme Court Nomination of Judge Jackson

Image
Justice Steven Breyer announced his retirement this year, and as a result President Joe Biden has nominated Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to be his replacement. Like any Supreme Court nomination, the selection has been polarizing and she has been met with scrutiny from across the political isle. Fox news and CNN on their respective broadcasts have covered Judge Jackson differently with CNN covering her with praise while Fox being critical of her views and history as a Judge. CNN highlighted that Judge Jackson would be the first black woman supreme court justice, and they brought on the Dean of Boston University who penned a letter that many in law have signed on to asking for her to be confirmed quickly. Fox on the other hand discussed the potential problems with Jackson as a Justice sighting her willingness to pack the court and also be soft on crime with regards to child predators which their guest Senator Hawley touched on. Biden Announces New Russian Sanctions

Image
Biden has announced new sanctions that would target large financial institutions, 5 Russian elites, and Moscow's sovereign debt in an attempt to deter Putin from invading Ukraine as tensions continue to increase between Russia and Ukraine along with NATO allies. This has been an ongoing coverage by the media for some time now, but this most recent set of sanctions by Biden has created some differences in how the media responded.  CNN covered Biden's speech calling the language and the sanctions robust and Borger's translation of his showed no criticism commenting on how serious the president looked and that this was quintessential Biden language. While CNN showed little to no criticism of Biden's response to Russia, Fox was another story. Sean Hannity of Fox drills into Biden on his multiple failures one of which being how he has failed with the Russia Ukraine conflict. He brings up one of his tweets from February 2020 in which Biden said he was the only perso...
